Our Story.
Sourdough Cuppa Joe began as a dream of owner Stephen Johnson while he was working as a training coordinator for Chick-fil-A in Knoxville. He had always wanted to do something on his own in order to have a larger impact on the world around him. Opening this community-minded coffee shop was the result of that dream. Stephen's wife, Stacy, is from Red Bank, which is a big reason why we're located in the greater Chattanooga area today!

Sourdough Cuppa Joe opened its doors for the first time on October 13, 2016. We started out offering a small selection of beverages and baked goods. In just over a year, we've expanded to offer a variety of coffee and espresso drinks, a much larger selection of baked goods, sandwiches, and even frozen custard under the banner of Nana’s Frozen Custard, which occupied our space many years before us.

We currently employ around 16 local residents who are working hard to bring you GREAT COFFEE, GREAT BREAD, and GREAT COMMUNITY!

At Sourdough Cuppa Joe, the future looks bright! In the short term, as our business continues to grow we plan to expand our menu by offering new selections including new sandwiches, more beverages, and more Nana’s Frozen Custard items. Long term, we'd love to explore more locations! We want to make Sourdough Cuppa Joe a household name not only in Hixson, but all over Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the Southeast.

Our philosophy for growth is simple:
Do a great job for our customers, who will then tell their friends and family members about us. Then do a great job for those new customers coming to see us, and the growth continues on and on.
